Surgery Tomorrow

His surgery will be tomorrow, Saturday, October 4, at 2:00 p.m. We are filled with praise and hope. In the midst of our praise, a donor's family is grieving. And I have thought so often about the connection between our adoption process and the transplant process—all a reflection of the glorious gospel we cling to, and jotted a few of those below. Keep praying with us. Specific prayers include:

  • Preparation for the surgery: Jeremy is on continuous dialysis to help give his kidneys a break.

  • Preparation for his mind and spirit: He's tired. And he wants rest. Pray he is given a break while under anesthesia.

  • Surgery: Pray for his incredible doctors, nurses, and staff operating on him. UAB is the BEST!

  • Risk: We haven't had a lot of good reports about his overall health these days, but he is strong and there is so much hope of all to go well. Pray the surgery goes well. We understand the risks involved.

  • Peace and Comfort: Whatever the outcome, pray for peace and comfort for us all. Peace in the waiting. Hope in the process. Comfort for him.

  • Calmness and a Sound Mind: Pray for everyone tomorrow to be well-rested, calm in spirit, and focused on Jeremy's healing.

Thank you for continuing to pray for our process! What a community of prayer warriors we have! The Lord is answering beyond our understanding or what makes sense. Praising Him along the way!

Grafting: Connecting Adoption and Transplant

Awareness of choice.

Placed. Donated.

Suffering. Immense suffering.

Grief. Want and need.

Chaos and pain on both sides.

The call.

Matched.

Hopeful anticipation.

Waiting.

Go time.

The day.

Anticipation and fear.

Two bound together as one.

Healing occurs.

Strength and suffering continue.

Joy in the suffering.

Waves of grief.

Finding rhythm in the connection.

Parting and death turned to life.

Dead made alive.

Hopeless given hope.

Strength in the binding.

Grafted together.

Old life made new.

All transformed.

A life placed. A life received.

Gospel narrative—He restores.
