editor. writer. connector.
Hello Professional People,
Sixteen years ago, during an internship and a season of working at Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), a former International Mission Board (IMB) missionary taught me how to write and edit professionally—that’s what I typically do.
Thirty years ago, Jesus Christ called me to follow Him, and truly, that’s the better story of who I am. Because of who He created me to be, I love discerning why people think the way they do and asking the right questions to shape clear, compelling, and theologically-sound messages.
This is where a good story is told.
Whether writing video scripts or press releases for an executive, sharing a missionary’s story, developing curriculum for the church or missionaries, producing marketing copy for an organization, or editing missions education and training resources to engage the church, I assess the whole context, voice, and accuracy of the message.
Working confidently with the Chicago Manual of Style across print and digital platforms, I’m experienced in editing, writing, curriculum and instructional design, public relations, marketing, websites and social media, AI*, and development. I am, and forever will be, Team Oxford Comma. I am able to follow or develop style guides for teams and organizations, and love to train other writers and editors to confidently share their voice and work collaboratively toward our objectives.
Beyond my love for my husband, our three girls (our youngest grafted into our family through the beautiful story of adoption), and a quality cup of coffee, my heart is to equip and mobilize churches through theological discipleship, training, and education and inspire the next generation to live on mission as they learn more about God’s glory among the nations.
Other curiosities: I deeply love hosting people, hearing your stories, and a good play on words. I am a member of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama, and have served with the IMB in South Asia and the Middle East. With a love of etymology and semantics, I have formally studied six languages—French (longest-running), Arabic, Nepali, Hindi, Greek, and Hebrew—and have dabbled in German, Spanish, and Latin. My Working Genius strengths are: Discernment, Enablement, and Invention, and my Myers-Briggs personality type is: INFJ.
Anything else? Just message me and ask (and let’s discuss it over coffee, please).
Grace to you all,
Courtney Simpson

Please note: I am not a graphic designer. Although I love to help with typesetting, images, and concepts, graphic designers are their own magic-makers. I write words—they make them look better.
* AI can be a useful tool when wielded wisely with ethical considerations. There is something to be said for solely using a mind and soul created by the Creator. We, who work with words, are designed to be Image-bearers of the Word. Let’s not forget how valuable and honorable this is as we steward helpful resources like AI to improve quality and clarity. AI was not used to write anything on this website.
The projects below were not created in isolation. Each reflects the talents of teammates more gifted than I am. It is only through collaborative, intentional, and respectful working environments and teams that we are enabled to produce anything worthwhile for others.
For the past eight years, I served with the International Mission Board. Before this, I worked with the WMU Foundation and WMU on projects that are now outdated and therefore not featured below.
My work with the WMU Foundation won two Baptist Communicators Association Awards in 2021 for a Website, organization or company site with 25 pages or more and for a Total Public Relations or Development Campaign featuring monthly giving.
