Short Story Long: In the Beginning
In Arabic, a good story begins with, “From the beginning, in the days of old …” The “days of old” could be yesterday or 100 years ago—it doesn’t matter as long as the story starts this way.
For followers of Jesus, our best story begins with “In the beginning, God …” and continues from there, telling what Jesus Christ has done, is doing, and will do. We simply get the privilege of following Him all of our days.
There’s a favorite verse from the Gospel of John, where John comes to the end of his account of Jesus’ life, and he seems to run out of words, yet knows there is much more to this Word. John ends by writing:
“Now, there are also many other things Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose the world itself could not contain the books that would be written” (John 21:25).
“In the beginning” is only the start of what Jesus is doing through His people. The stories told in this space will be ones from the days of old, some in the present, and a few focused on praying toward the future.
Jeremy and I love to sit and hear others’ stories and often joke about how we are “short story long” people. Always tell the long version—no need to rush on our account. Sit and stay a while. Let’s fill the world with the books telling what our Savior has done.
We’ll keep our stories as brief as needed, but we hope you enter this time with us by grabbing your own cup of coffee, chai, tea, or hot chocolate, and resting a while.
Your presence here is welcome, and we are grateful you stopped by.
